The building stock consists of beautiful historical stone buildings completed in the late 19th century. The construction project was designed by architects S. Gripenberg, M. Schjerfbeck and E. A. Kranck from the General Board of Public Buildings from 1894 to 1895. For more information visit: Pitkäniemi Hospital
The Chief's residence (XXVII), called the Castle, was built on the most beautiful spot in the area, on the shore of Lake Pyhäjärvi. The building is reminiscent of Italian Renaissance villas with columnar terraces. In the 1980s, the premises were converted to representation and conference use. The original room layout, tile stoves and delicate roof paintings were retained in a renovation designed by engineer Harry Schreck. The castle houses the Pitkäniemi Hospital Museum, whose main exhibition presents the history of Pitkäniemi Hospital and the old objects of the hospital. The museum also houses crafts and art made by patients. For more information visit: Pitkäniemi Buildings
